Baihetan Hydropower Station has been officially put into operation for power generation, adding a super project to achieve the goal of carbon neutralization and carbon peak by 2030!

On June 28, 2021, the first batch of units of Baihetan Hydropower Station on Jinsha River in China, which is the largest hydropower station under construction, the largest single unit capacity in the world and the second largest installed capacity in the world, will be officially put into operation. Located in Liangshan Prefecture of Sichuan Province and Zhaotong City of Yunnan Province, Baihetan Hydropower Station is the largest hydropower project under construction in the world with the highest technical difficulty. It is a national major project to implement China’s “west to East power transmission” and build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system. It is also a global super project that China has promised to achieve carbon neutrality and carbon peak by 2030, It is a landmark project to promote the development of Western China in the new era, form a new pattern and build a well-off society in an all-round way.

Baihetan Hydropower Station

Baihetan Hydropower Station is located in the dry and hot valley of Jinsha River with huge scale and complex geological conditions. Its comprehensive technical difficulty ranks first in the world, and its main technical indexes are 6. The single unit capacity of hydro generator is 1 million KW, ranking first in the world; The scale of underground cavern group is the first in the world; The scale of cylindrical tailrace surge tank is the first in the world; The seismic parameters of 300m high arch dam are the first in the world; The scale of non pressure spillway tunnel group is the first in the world. For the first time, low heat cement concrete is used in the whole dam (the world’s first low temperature concrete pouring).

The world’s largest hydro generator rotor

According to Martin, hengfengyou electrical engineer, the 550 kV step-up transformer is used in Baihetan Hydropower Station, with a single transformer capacity of 375 MVA; The transportation weight is 178 tons. The output power voltage of a single million kilowatt unit is increased from 24 kV to 550 kV, and then transmitted to the State Grid of China through GIS of gas insulated metal enclosed switching station and Gil of gas insulated metal enclosed transmission line with the highest drop in the world.
The total installed capacity of Baihetan Hydropower Station is 16 million kilowatts, second only to the Three Gorges Project and second in the world; The single unit capacity is 1 million kilowatts, ranking the first in the world. The annual average power generation is 62.443 billion kwh, and the power is mainly transmitted to Jiangsu and Zhejiang, helping the economic development of the Yangtze River Delta. After being put into operation, Baihetan Hydropower Station, together with the Three Gorges project, Gezhouba project, Wudongde, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba hydropower stations on Jinsha River, will form the world’s largest clean energy corridor, which is of great significance to improving the energy structure and boosting the realization of the goal of “carbon peak and carbon neutralization”. It is also an important tool of China.
